Paul Desmond - Take Ten. Famous for writing Take Five (usually accredited to Dave Brubeck), Take Ten is a similar feel but more laid back. Desmond is renowned for having an alto sax tone 'like dry martini' and has been one of the top three influences on my playing. He was classically trained, smoked heavily and died in his thirties of lung cancer, but what a beautiful body of work he gave.
